Longines' passion for equestrian sports dates back to the brand's beginnings in the 19th century. In 1869, Longines created its first watch with a horse motif. Some time later, the brand launched its first chronograph movement, which was housed in a case decorated with a horse and a jockey. Since 1881, this timepiece has been the standard for jockeys and equestrian enthusiasts in the United States. In 1912, Longines entered into its first partnership with a show jumping tournament in Lisbon, cementing its ties with the equestrian world.
